Concrete contractors in Coral Gables, FL
In Coral Gables a driveway is a design decision before it's a concrete job. The city's permit checklist sends new driveways, pavers and walkways, or any change of material or shape, to the City Architect and Board of Architects, with a material sample and a dimensioned site plan. Pick a color the board won't approve and the job waits. Call (786) 686-1048 and we'll connect you with an independent contractor who works the Gables and Coconut Grove, for stamped and paver driveways, pool decks behind the older homes, and walkways lifted by banyan and oak roots. Ask whether they've taken a driveway through the board before.
What's different here
- Materials are reviewed.Bring a real sample of the paver or stamped color to the review.
- Historic homes are excluded from the fast track. The same-day permit program doesn't cover historic properties.
- Roots are the usual cause of cracking. The canopy that makes the streets is under the walkways too.

Coral Gables permits, in plain terms
- New driveways, pavers, tiling and walkways, or a change of material or shape, need City Architect or Board of Architects approval.
- Bring a material sample and a dimensioned site plan.
- The Board of Architects meets weekly. Larger projects get a preliminary and a final review.
- The Same Day Permit Program covers asphalt driveways on single-family homes, but not historic properties or homes in historic districts.
- The city's own detail shows pavers set inside a continuous concrete curb at the edge.

Coconut Grove is a different city
The Grove sits right next to the Gables, but it's a neighborhood of the City of Miami, so its permits go through the City of Miami, not the Gables board. The homes and the tree canopy look alike; the paperwork doesn't. Tell the contractor your exact address before they quote.
Older slabs, older problems
Homes built in the 1920s to 1950s often have thin original walks and drives, patched more than once, with roots running under them. Expect a contractor to talk about removing roots carefully, cutting rather than ripping, and what the base under the old slab looks like once it's up.
